Impressions after upgrade to Domino 8.5, Traveler 8.5 in production

    Vladislavs Tatarincevs  10 January 2009 14:01:35
Next day after Domino 8.5 was available to public, we have upgraded our productions servers to Domino 8.5.
(If you go to Lotusphere, don't miss Pauls Mooney and Bill Buchan session about Good and Bad Practice for Lotus Admins and Developeres). :))))

    ok, back to upgrade.
Upgrade went without a problems, we upgraded 8.0.2 to 8.5. Just before upgrade implemented Create_R85_DATABASES=1 in global configuration document.

ODS upgrade of names.nsf and admin4 completed without problems. now it is 51,
After compact, size of the database was almost the same.

Traveler 8.5 installation was also rather easy, and also withour problem, it works out of the box!!! Lotus People ROCKs!!!! :)

    Things i noticed after upgrade.

Lotus Notes 8.5 if much faster than 8.0.2,  even 8.0.2 was rather fast, but 8.5 is a real rocket.
Launch time of 8.5 clients is ~20 % faster than 8.0.2

iNotes design is changed, now you can switch to UltraLite mode also.
will do comparison of iNotes 8.0.2 and 8.5 later.

Good thing that now in preferences, you can see which options are locked by admins.

Nice, I no longer need answer "Why this bloody settings switched back"!!! or "I can't change it ".

Dynamic policy is also nice thing, which many customers were asking for some time, now it is in Domino 8.5 code :)

I've been living on beta code for some time, I can say that Domino 8.5 is ready for production.

ID Vault, DAOS, and other improvements really makes this software even more usable and attractive for customers.

Lotus Traveler is a real KILLER. All our company people, especially geeks, started to use it, and they love it!
You can access your mail from anywhere, sync you calendar, reply customer mails.

Thank you IBM  :) great job!

    Vlad

BTW, one hot fix is already available for Domino 8.5.

We are evaluating a Domino 8.5 upgrade for our production systems and this is really convincing us. IBM Lotus division ROCKS!

@Vlad: Did you test the "wipe" option? I'm getting a warning that the client does not support this feature.

    Version: 8.5.0.0
